Who would have thought nine years ago, that the Bride & Groom Expo, birthed through Vision Group’s Bride & Groom magazine, would turn out to be the biggest wedding event of the year in the region?
The annual expo has become bigger every year since that first one in 2009, with well over 10,000 people visiting Uganda Manufacturer’s Association exhibition (UMA) hall to experience this unique event. This year, one of the biggest players of tourism – Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) – has come on board as sponsor to the Expo.
According to Fiona Negesa, KTB’s assistant regional manager, partnering with the Expo will help strengthen ties between Uganda and Kenya.
“Uganda remains a very important market for Kenya not only for tourism, but also for trade. Social events like weddings are at the centre of Ugandans’ lifestyle. Such special once in a lifetime occasions (Expo) deserve proper celebration and Kenya provides a great alternative to exotic locations just next door,” Negesa said.
“These range from the city to the bush and the beach providing a variety of options for the bride and groom on their special day and for their honeymoon as they begin life together.
Participating in the Expo and the ongoing #TugendeKenya campaign aims to position Kenya as the destination of choice for Ugandans not only for business but also for leisure, shopping and special occasions such as weddings.
“During the Expo, we look forward to engage directly with consumers and also Uganda-based wedding planners to learn, network and share information while promoting Kenya as the preferred wedding and honeymoon destination of choice, just next door,” she added.
Negesa added that at the Expo, Kenya will be showcasing the different wedding destinations and honeymoon spots spread out across the country from Nairobi, the regions heartbeat, to the 500km Kenya Swahili Coast, perfect getaway for couples and families.
“Being our first time at the Expo, we hope for a great and engaging event all round. Of course, we have great giveaways and holiday offers,” Negesa added.
“For KTB to join hands with us,” said Susan Nsibirwa, Vision Group’s head of marketing and communications. “We are honoured that KTB saw it fit to come on board as sponsors and we hope that this cross-border partnership will take the Expo to greater heights and possibly become the biggest wedding event in the region.”
This year, the Expo takes a different twist with the chance for a lucky couple to win a fantasy wedding worth sh80m.
The Bride & Groom Expo will be on from June 22 to 24 at UMA, with an entrance fee of only sh10,000.
